I have owned this MGA since 1992. The car was originally exported to California when new and reimported from Sacramento, California in November 1989
The body was restored in 1989. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt 1993. A lead free cylinder head has been fitted. Over the years I have rebuilt the Brakes, Suspension, Rewired, etc and it is probably in the best condition it has been since new
The top speed of the MGA 1500 is about 101 mph from a power output of just 68 bhp. Acceleration from 0-60 mph takes 15 seconds. All modern cars can pass it with ease! The joy of the MG is that it is fun to drive at any speed.
In 1957 an MGA would have cost you just £595 plus £249 purchase
Tax.
A total of 101,081 MGA's were built between September 1955 and June 1962. About 90,000 were Roadsters like this one, the remainder were hardtop Coupes. Only about 5,800 MGA's were built for the British market. The rest were exported, mainly to the United States of America. Those that went to California and the west coast survived well in the drier climates and many, like this one, remained relatively rust free.
I have recently fitted a modern 5 speed gearbox which makes the car far better to drive in modern traffic
